It's the 2nd day of my 30 day blogging challenge, and I've already hit a wall. So I've decided to enlist the help of one of my favorite gemstones. Diopside (Black Star). Now this stone is not one of my favorites because it's in my top 5 best sellers for 2013 and 2014. Its the aesthetics of this stone that to me are completely magical.
Diopside (Black Star) presents a beautiful, bright white floating Star, or asterism, on a lustrous black surface. Asterisms are more commonly seen in star rubies and star sapphires. They differ in the fact that the asterism in black star displays 4 points as opposed to 6.
Being a black stone, it is associated with the base chakra. It resonates at a very deep, physical level. It helps to stimulate the more physical aspects of brain function, such as computation and spatial awareness. Black Stars connection with our physical aspects makes it ideal for the gym. I use it on the treadmill myself to keep muscle spasms, stitches and cramp at bay.
It is also a fantastic gem for men's jewellery. One set that springs to mind is a cufflink and stud set for evening dress. Made by a customer of mine back in 2013. An anniversary present for her clients husband. She set them in white gold. The client later commented to the jeweller, that "the asterisms were clearly visible from the other side of the room".
An underrated gem by many. But not by my discerning customers.
