Amethyst

It's been known for some time now the crystals and gemstones have the ability to hold certain energies, and attract and repel others. I suppose it's a bit of a leap of faith to believe that the individual energy of a particular gem stone types can have an effect on the energies that flow through us. It's a leap that I took some time ago.

This is a time of year when i usually notice a bit of a spike in my amethyst sales. It's the birthstone for Aquarius and the month of February. But that aside, this beautiful gemstone is popular throughout the year.

Amethyst gemstones ranges in colour from deep purple to pale lilac. The most popular varieties of this gem are found in Africa and South America. The name amethyst derives from the Greek word amethystos, which means "not drunk". It was used from that period through to the middle ages to help maintain clarity and sobriety when having the odd goblet or two. Quartz will commonly contain trace amounts of iron (in the range of 10's to 100's parts per million of iron. The colour of amethyst comes from colour centres in the quartz. These are created when trace amounts of iron are irradiated (from the natural radiation in the rocks).

Amethyst is the gemstone of meditation and conection to the higher self. Allowing one to clear the mind and focus on the task at hand. I'm desperately clasping one now, while I focus on completing this blog. Which will be the 1st blog of my “30 day bogging challenge”. It's helping to keep me relaxed, and focused. The subtle vibrations from this gemstone help to increase my own vibration. Firing up little used synaptic pathways, and allow me to put out this blog, which I hope you find informative.

As I said earlier. I have made that leap.
